For those familiar with “Tech-Twitter”, one of the larger influencers, Florin Pop, recently released a new Ebook that he’s been working on this year called “Ten++ Ways to Make Money as a Developer”. Being someone who has been trying to build up a side-income myself outside of my day job as a SE, I immediately bought the book, mainly because of the trust that I have in Florin and his content.

This is intended to be as transparent of a review as I can make it. If you’d rather skip over my thoughts and opinions on the book and get right to checking it out yourself, feel free to do so here:

Review

This book covers 10 core topics that can be helpful in generating income as a developer. Some are more straightforward such as “Working as a professional developer”, a chapter that focuses on preparing for and securing a position that pays well. Others, go more in-depth on some more difficult sources such as blogging, youtube, streaming, and mentoring. What I found to be super helpful and what I really liked about this book is not the general ideas of how to go about making money, but the tips and tricks for maximizing efficiency and improving your ability to make money through these mediums. It also shows several different tools that you can use to maximize productivity and income.

Chapter topics

I myself have been working hard in my free time to make Medium blogging and Youtube additional sources of income for myself and didn’t expect to gain many additional insights from those chapters since I’ve been researching and working hard at them for some time now, but I was shocked to still find some great tips and insights into how to better improve my Youtube channel and this blog.

Another thing that stood out to me was how well everything tied together and how useful the information as a whole was. I honestly was expecting to see a few chapters of mostly just “filler” content. I know how hard it can be to create sustainable, quality content, and expected to see something like that show up in the book, but I have to say, Florin did a great job at making sure all the content in the 166 pages of this book were relevant, reviewed, and provided value. I was also impressed to see that he sought out several respected and experienced developers who have backgrounds in free-lancing to verify and add to the information in this book.

Book Cost

This is what is so difficult to judge with books because all anyone really cares about is “Is this book worth my money?”, and worth can be pretty subjective to different people. This book costs $30 with the occasional $10 promo. I would say that it is absolutely worth the purchase. The information provided, if put into practice will yield you far more than you paid for this book. Typically most books of this caliber I will see go up for anywhere between $30–50, so I had no qualms with the price tag that Florin placed on this book. It’s also important to remember that just like any other book you purchase, it’s often an investment.

This is a great source for anyone looking to invest in themselves. If you are looking to make an additional income on top of whatever you are currently doing, or if you are even just starting out as a developer, this is a great resource that you should take advantage of. If you would like to get some additional insights or thoughts about specific chapters or anything else pertaining to the book, feel free to message me on Twitter and ask away! Because I do want to be sure that Florin is credited for all of the fantastic tips, tricks and advice found in the book, I’m trying my best to not give away anything unless it was advertised outside of the book already.
